Changing a few things about my story

So I had presentations today and again lots of people made a lot of good suggestions making me have to rethink a little bit about my story. I'm not going to redo my leica reel I don't think, I'll just go straight into the pre-viz. Thankfully this allows me to do a bit less work since I was a bit crazy with the amount of humans I have to rig. So here is the changes

1) Only 3 locations this time, the school Classroom, Canteen and Shop. This will take the load off modelling so many environments.

2) Less characters, I realised a lot of my characters weren't working for me so I'm going to keep the characters that are and leave the ones behind that don't really need to be there. So sorry Dallas and Cachou that means you die. Which leads onto

3) I'm simplifying the story a little bit, instead of having a group of humans the main character goes to, he's only really going to meet 1 human, a girl. There going to get along before something happens to their relationship.

4)I'm going to try and put a little bit of animation in there, I'm going to focus on human expressions and lip-syncing. This I'm still unsure about but I'm going to see how it works.

As for work, I've pretty much finished the rigging and the weights on my Nick character, I have to do the blend shapes and start rigging the Alien and Trudy.

So I've finally gotten the characters of my story modelled and textured, I think they look pretty good, the hair is a little weird on some of them so that's something I might change later. I'm going to out some sub surface skin in later when I start using mental ray.

My new Leica Reel

Hey so I promised my new Leica reel a few days ago and here it is, it shows the new setting and the new tweaked storyline, hopefully since i put the text a bit more readable people can understand the story better.

A Quick Introduction and Overview

Hello, this is the first post on this blog, we have to make a blog for Uni to detail what we are doing for my FMP. I have basically kind of ignored that always saying I will do it later or after I have modelled something but I never do it. Well finally I have made this thing.

My Final Major Project will be called Communication Over Alienation, and it is a theme that I have wanted to get across for awhile. It is about my personal dealings with Aspergers, which is an autistic disorder that affects all manor of things like social skills. When I was a teenager I always felt a bit distant from my fellow classmates or teenagers, i felt for a long time that I was an alien placed on this earth accidently, I didn't really get the rules of social interaction. This was until I met a group of people that shared a lot of things like science fiction shows and movies, it was also where I learned the most from my condition since someone else had it as well and kind of guided me where I could get help. Anyway all in all this film basically shows a person dealing with Alienation and finding a group that have his same likes and eventually finding that the place he lives in isn't as alien as he first thought.

At first I wanted to tell this story with a private investigator and a very Noirish world and a bar, but someone gave me a very good point. Why isn't this about a teenager since this is my personal experience. So that's exactly what I have done I have changed it to a very school setting and this has improved my work and story immensely.

1) It has made a lot of things make sense, like why there is a group of humans and why they hate the Aliens so much, also some story plots make a bit more sense and would ease the audience a lot more.

2) It has made the modelling of the characters a lot easier, I can legitimately use the same blazer and smart pants in all my characters since it is a school and everyone dresses the same. Well they do in this school!

So today I have two characters modelled and have redone a few of the storyboards to make it a bit more like they are in a school and to make the text a lot clearer to read. i will post a picture of the characters, tommorow I will probably post up a Leica Reel of the new story, not many plot points have actually changed from the original story but hopefully with the new setting they make a bit more sense.
